Grade 7 and 8  Science

 

Dear Students and Families: 

 

What an exciting time for Science Education! We continue to update and improve our Science curriculum based on the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). This new approach to teaching Science is student-centered with a big focus on activities and lessons that allow students to question, explore, problem-solve, argue, and experience science. We’ve adopted a new science textbook series that embraces these principles, and I look forward to the scientific explorations ahead of us! 

 

7th grade will explore “Chemistry” (1st marking period), “Geologic Processes and History” (2nd marking period), “Cells and Heredity” (3rd marking period), and “Ecology and Environment“(4th marking period). 

 

8th grade we will cover “Diversity of Living Things” (1st marking period), “Forces and Motion” (2nd marking period), “Energy and Energy Transfer” (3rd marking period), “Waves and their Application”(4th marking period). 

 

Science Fair projects: All students are expeted to complelte a science fair project. Intial projects will be completed as a google slide presentation. The science fair guidlines and due dates will be sent to you soon. Projects will be worth two test grades.

 

 Class Expectations

 

- Students in the classroom are expected to check Schoology for any updates,

homework, or announcement regarding our class.  

- Come to class prepared every day. 

- Be on time for each class period. This means following the schedule!

- Be an active member of the class every day. 

- Complete homework assignments. 

- Work with and respect all members of the learning community. 

- Follow all policies set forth by the BBOED Elementary Code of Conduct.
