Mrs. Welch’s 2nd Grade Class 2018-19

Quarter 3.

   Math

This quarter, we will practice adding and subtracting two, 3-digit numbers and four 2-digit numbers. Students will practice decompose, adding and subtracting numbers within 20.  They will also practice counting money and telling time.  They will continue to use the 100s chart, number line, and base 10 blocks to solve one-step and two-step word problems.

           Science

We will begin this quarter learning about shadows and moon phases.  We will be working with our science website, workbooks, and informational text. 

 Guided Reading

We will be reading both fiction and non-fiction text.  The reading strategies will include making inferences and predictions.  Students will practice reading with intonation and inflection (expression).  We will include our poetry, science, and social studies resources in our reading centers.  Students will use graphic organizers to help them summarize what they learn.  They may add work to their portfolios in SeeSaw or ClassDojo.  

    Social Studies 

In social studies, the students will learn about the historical figures from Georgia's history (Juliette Gordon Low, Martin L. King, and Jackie Robinson).  We will be working with our social studies website, Social Studies Weekly, and additional resources.  

Phonics and Writing 

In phonics, we will begin learning to identify words ending in (el, le, and al).  We will learn about compound words.  We will complete several opinion writings this quarter. Students will write to share their opinion about their favorite books. 

Homework

Homework will most likely be viewed between 7:15-7:45. Please be sure that your child arrives on time and prepared to present his/her homework. Students may also practice their math fact via computer.  They may use the restroom and complete morning work, all before the 7:50 tardy bell rings.
